I'm not sure if you check the comments anymore (or get notifications, more likely), but I wanted to say how enjoyable it was to read through your experience of Japan. I have not yet been able to experience more than the Narita airport (even though that can be an adventure in itself!), but you reminded me of the trips I was so lucky to take in grad school to Shanghai. No matter how much time you spend abroad there are always those days that you wander around with awe in your eyes and the thought that, "I get to see this first-hand!" We have lived in Germany for almost 5 years and I still have not tired of it, and we are still discovering wonderful things right next door.
There is simply too much world to see and so many wonderful people to meet.
If you and Brooke and your lovely family ever have the chance to see some of Europe, you are more than welcome to visit us. We are not far from the Frankfurt airport, and I can probably find you some Karaoke. . .
