Ryan: Time has no meaning for me anymore. I have no idea what time it is at home, etc. I'm losing tack of what "Day" it is for my flickr pictures. I'm pretty sure it's Day Eight, but I could be wrong.
Dar: There is a little green guy on the billboards here that reminds me of Mr. Sparkle. I'm not sure what he advertises. I'll try to get a pic and ask my host family.
Amy: Hi, thanks for commenting.
Greg: Hi, even though you won't comment. :)
Deb: Thanks for the link, I'll check that. (I was told tonight that my speech will not be translated into Japanese for the HS students. I should just "speak slowly and clearly. I wonder what they'll make of my bootheel dialect?)
Krista: That beautiful clear umbrella is the only thing making me fit in with the Japanese. They all have them. I got mine at 7-11 because I failed to pack one.

Hey Bob..I love seeing the new pics on your flickr. You never see cigs machines here anymore. Did you notice if they are as expensive as they are in the US? As an ex smoker I am curious what they sell for there.
Your wife and children are coming to the bootheel today so I'll give them a hug for you
Bob, what season is it there? What's the weather like?
It sounds like people are very friendly and helpful. Do many speak English?
The fan fare makes you feel good, doesn't it? In South Africa, I felt so welcome when all the high school students were clamoring to talk to me, asking if I knew Oprah and Snoop Dog.
Take care,
Krista
Hi Bob...The sweet reception they gave you at Atabashi was so touching...I was getting verklempt as I read about it. What a wonderful experience:) Speaking of lovely experiences, I just got back from spending a few wonderful days at the Clubbs residence. One day, Eli was just sitting in his highchair waiting for lunch and he said "Daddy", then he made his sign for "where?" He had that priceless little earnest look on his face like "I don't mean to bother anybody, but I've been noticing a certain important person's absence..."
I really admire how faithful you've been to your blog, Bob. I know how easy it is to get caught up in the excitement of it all and just let the correspondence slide. I applaud your effort.
Good luck with your speech! Here's one of my favorite quotes that works well in many different contexts: "The wise know too well their own weaknesses to assume infallibility, and he who knows most knows how little he knows." I think Thomas Jefferson gets the credit for that one. Take care,
Love, Nonni
Don't worry so much about the dialect! Just focus on how cool it is that someone from Malden, who gave many memorable performances in his own high school, is now making a speech in a Japanese high school!! Love, Deb
